Kwekwe is located in the Midlands Province of Zimbabwe, and apparently owes its unusual name to the sound made by croaking frogs along the river banks, but the frogs have long since been drowned out by the hum of the growing town.

Marondera (previously known as Marandellas) was one of the centres of Zimbabwe's large forestry and farming districts.  However, this is not the case today, but there are still forestry areas.  It has a temperate climate which is ideal for sheep, maize, orchards and garden vegetable growing. Marondera is the closest Zimbabwe gets to being in a wine region, and nowadays several wineries are producing. tasty products.
